And the update didn\u2019t seem to be having any real impact on rankings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This came as a surprise since Danny Sullivan, Public Liaison for Search \u2013 Google had touted the update as \u201c<strong>big\u201d<\/strong> but not a \u201c<strong>huge shake-up<\/strong>\u201d on Twitter. Nonetheless, not every website was spared.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of all the web pages, the categories most impacted by the update included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>lyrics pages&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ringtones&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>dictionaries&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>manuals&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>coding&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But it was only a matter of time before the SERPs changed again. <strong>Google soon came out with the core update of September 2022.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"aioseo-impact-of-google-core-update-2022\"><strong>Impact of Google Core Update, 2022<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As soon as the core update was completed on September 26<sup>th<\/sup>, 2022, many people noticed a sudden drop and increase in traffic. While there are no official data, the drop in traffic was said to be between 20% to 60%. But while some sites lost traffic, there were many that benefitted. Most notably the small brands. For those who lost traffic, however, there might never be a full recovery.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Gary Illyes of Google, you can\u2019t \u2018quick fix\u2019 your content and expect to get back to your initial rankings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Google does have a validation period during which it reviews sites. This can be months long, but worth a shot. If you want to win Google\u2019s favour, you will have to prove your commitment to publishing content that\u2019s helpful in the long run.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"aioseo-2-google-discover-is-now-a-feature-of-search-and-probably-affected-by-the-helpful-content-system\"><strong>#2 Google Discover is now a feature of Search and (probably) affected by the Helpful Content System<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Since all features of Google Search are now affected by the Helpful Content System, it is assumed that the system will also impact Google Discover visibility. So, creators who want to get traffic through the Discover feature should focus on bringing unique, value-packed content to their audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It could be in the form of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Web Stories on Google<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Blog posts published on your website&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Blogs republished on Medium publications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"aioseo-3-and-what-about-ai-generated-content-should-you-be-generating-content-using-ai-content-bots\"><strong>#3 And what about AI-generated content? Should you be generating content using <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ukti.co.in\/blog\/2023\/02\/15\/where-did-content-bots-come-from\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">AI content bots<\/a><strong>?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, it was presumed Google would be penalizing web pages publishing AI-created content. But that doesn\u2019t seem to be the case.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s how Google Search views AI-generated content.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Their focus is on content quality rather than how the content was produced<\/strong>. However, the content should have the qualities of E-E-AT (experience \u2013 expertise \u2013 authoritativeness \u2013 trustworthiness). These are the factors Google uses to review a particular webpage.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Google Search also doesn\u2019t consider AI-generated content as SPAM.<\/strong> Instead, they believe AI can power creativity and help people create useful content. But that is not to say you can publish substandard, 100% AI-created content. Content created by people will still be put first.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Google is strictly against the use of AI to create content that can manipulate or game the search engine rankings<\/strong>. Such content will be considered straight-up spam.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"aioseo-how-to-create-helpful-people-first-content\"><strong>How to Adapt to Google Helpful Content Update Impact?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is how you can <a href=\"https:\/\/ukti.co.in\/blog\/2022\/09\/03\/why-original-content-matters-now-more-than-ever-and-how-to-do-it-right\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">create people-first, original content<\/a> and stay on top of your SERP game (as recommended by Google).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Write for people, not keywords.<\/strong> Instead of using keyword traffic to choose content topics, focus on solving the challenges of your audience.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Refresh old content.<\/strong> After the new update, some of your older, high-performing content can be deemed unhelpful by Google. So it\u2019s best to update it with the latest information.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Indicate who created your content<\/strong>. Providing proper authorship information will help you align with the E-E-A-T concepts.
