ChatGPT Prompts, Tools, Resources, and Techniques for Marketing Content

A set of ChatGPT prompts and prompting tools to brainstorm and generate marketing content for your small business.

By now, you’re probably a pro at using ChatGPT for marketing, from ideating topics to clustering keywords, summarising articles and whatnot. I mean, what’s the big deal, right? You enter a straightforward command, and you get the desired output almost always.

Your AI friend is the sharpshooter that never misses, provided you enter detailed and specific prompts. Because as they say in the AI land,

“Better prompt” = “Better output”

Let me show you my prompting techniques and resources. And how I’m using ChatGPT as a writing assistant to brainstorm and create marketing content faster.

Let’s go!

Best of ChatGPT Prompts and Prompting Techniques to Create Marketing Content

Here are my go-to resources for finding work-life-changing ChatGPT prompts:

  • ChatGPT (I know, I know!)
  • ChatGPT prompt generating extensions
  • Keywords Everywhere Prompt Templates
  • Good netizens who like to share helpful content on the Internet
  • My brain :}

ChatGPT Prompts for Marketers by ChatGPT

I tried to ask the magician to reveal its magic tricks. Here’s the prompt I used, adapted from the one shared here

“You are a ChatGPT trainer who helps professionals newer to ChatGPT apply ChatGPT for their work. They work in fields like content marketing, product marketing, content writing, etc. Please create a table with 10 different ChatGPT prompts they might try to make them more productive at work with the help of ChatGPT. Organize the table by type of prompt and example prompts for that category.”

The result.

As you can see, the prompts are pretty basic and will need specific information and instructions to provide a helpful output.

Let’s put the “Help me craft a concise elevator pitch for our product.” to test and see if we can generate good content ideas.

Basic? Yes – but not bad at all! Let’s try and improve it.

Lesson learned: Keep asking ChatGPT to improve the output till you get the desired quality. The more feedback you provide to your AI assistant, the better the work it will do for you. So be clear and descriptive when giving instructions.

ChatGPT Prompts to Use While Writing Content

Now, let’s get on with the simplest yet efficient ChatGPT prompts you can use.

While writing fresh content, you’ve probably struggled to do the following: finding the perfect analogy/metaphor to explain a complex topic, writing headlines that attract clicks, understanding the search intent, making paragraphs concise, and finally, repurposing a long article into a short social post.

(Been there, not a good place, is it? I’d rather pluck out my hair strand by strand.)

But lucky us, we now have an AI friend to help us out. Let’s see how.

1. Prompt for finding the perfect analogy/metaphor

“Imagine you’re a teacher renowned for breaking down complex ideas into simple, engaging, and short explanations. Try and explain “<insert topic/keyword>” with a metaphor or analogy in 150 words or less.”

2. Prompt for writing attention-grabbing headlines

“Suggest Buzzfeed style headlines of 165 characters or less for the keyword: <insert target keyword>”

“Suggest <insert preferred theme>-themed headlines for the topic: <insert topic>. The job here has no relation to the <theme>”

For example, “Suggest Bollywood-themed headlines for the topic: “Can AI help me land a job? The job has no relation to Bollywood.”

3. Prompt for understanding search intent

This is a highly underrated yet brilliant use of ChatGPT. When I’m brainstorming with my AI friend, I tend to work with a single keyword and then find related questions people are asking about it.

To begin with, I will use the following prompt.

“What are the most commonly asked questions around <keyword>”

Then, I pick up a single question I’d like to work with and use the following prompt.

“What’s the search intent for the query “How can I align my content strategy with a product-led approach?”

4. Prompt for making paragraphs crisper

This one’s a no-brainer, yet many people leave out specific elements from the prompts. Like changes to tone, word count, or content itself. Instead, give this a try.

“Make the following paragraph crisper by eliminating verbiage and summing up the content in <enter word count> words in a <preferred tone like conversational, formal, etc.> tone: <insert the text you want to make crisper>”

5. Prompt for turning blogs posts into social posts

When repurposing blog posts, I like to pick out specific sections instead of the entire blog content. And use the following prompt to generate engaging yet informative social media posts.

Convert the following text into a LinkedIn post. It should be engaging and conversational in tone. Here’s the text:”

Keywords Everywhere ChatGPT Prompts: The Chrome Extension You Wish You Had Known Sooner

I’ve been a massive, massive fan of Keywords Everywhere (KE) for a while now. It’s a browser add-on for anyone who can’t afford a premium for sophisticated keywords research tools like SEMrush or Ahrefs. Or are simply super lazy to learn how to use them.

Either way, KE is an excellent tool for keyword discovery. And now, along with helping you find relevant keywords, the KE extension also gives you ready-to-use prompt templates in ChatGPT.

You can download the extension here. And learn how their “Templates” feature works here.

Now, onto some fun.

KE provides templates in four broad categories:

  1. Copywriting
  2. Marketing
  3. SEO
  4. Social Media

Let’s try the Copywriting one and see if it’s any good. I’ve picked the topic “Buy My Content Writing Course” for the keyword “Content Writing Course”.

Here’s the output.

This is a decent output, but not persuasive or engaging enough. It’s what you’d call “average” content.

Now, while I like the B2B Copywriting and Marketing prompts a lot – for me, KE’s ChatGPT SEO prompts take the win without a doubt. With them, you can diversify your keyword research based on intent and ideate content topics fast.

It’s simple and straightforward. So, if you’re someone who gets easily overwhelmed by new technology, the KE Templates feature is a good option to get a taste of AI assistance.

And the best part? KE keeps adding fresh templates to their roster, so you’ll never run out.

Where to Find the Best ChatGPT Prompts for Marketing Content? Tools & Resources

How Not to Use ChatGPT Prompts: A Lesson for Content Creators & Marketers

Every time I think of AI tools and the accuracy of their output, I’m reminded of a quote from the book, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick. It goes like this:

“If something looks real enough, do people still care that it’s fake?”

Turns out some people don’t even bother to check if something is real or fake. And certain outputs generated by ChatGPT definitely call for a hard fact check. So, before you outsource the entire content creation to ChatGPT, remember the following:

  • It’s a myth that ChatGPT can summarize URLs. Note that it cannot read hyperlinks and will generate incorrect information.
  • Don’t use ChatGPT to look for information. Since it’s not connected to the Internet, it cannot provide you with the latest information. Or worse, it might give you accurately sounding false information.
  • If you’re generating content where you might need to cite your sources, it’s better to write the content yourself. ChatGPT is known to produce fake references.
  • ChatGPT is useless for solving questions that require high-level thinking. This is because it lacks critical and creative thinking.

And with that, I leave you with my best ChatGPT prompting tips and techniques to use for creating marketing content.

What’s yours?
